What is educational therapy?

Educational therapy is targeted instruction for learners with a variety of learning differences. We work with students who have an identified learning disability, including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Processing Deficits, Non-Verbal Learning Disability, and ADHD. We also work with students who do not have an identified learning disability but need additional support learning how to learn.

At West Coast Educational Therapy, Julie will use a multi-sensory approach and skill-based instruction to support the learner. Each session is individualized, and specific strategies are implemented based on the needs of the student. At West Coast Educational Therapy, we will:

  • Help students become expert learners, by teaching them how they learn, recall, and then apply newly learned information.

  • Teach strategies for school success, including how to practice for retention, develop positive study habits, and communicate effectively within the classroom.

  • Develop tools to support the various areas of executive function, including time management, organization, focus/attention, planning, prioritizing, metacognition, goal-directed persistence, and flexibility.

  • Provide reading instruction— phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension.

  • Provide writing instruction— letter formation, sentence structure, grammar, organization, and knowledge of the writing process.

  • Provide math instruction that focuses on a foundational understanding of the number system and the value each number represents, as well as develop critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
